The skid Software        skid.org.in

Skid begin as an effort to develop communication support system for one child with cerebral palsy. It has now been made available to all children with autism, severe disabilities, dyslexia and other mental challenges.


To make the effort sustainable, we have included students from engineering colleges to participate in a hands-on training in software writing using cutting edge technology, during the summers. We have organized two summer trainings in 2008 and 2009 respectively. We are looking at possibility of software writing through online classes. Towards this end we have started online classes this year.

Skid now can be used in English, German, French and Hindi.

Input Devices skid accepts

Skid is designed to be used via one of the following means of input:
  • joystick or racing wheel (so far only works under Linux, needs special client software. Different clients exist for one button, two button and five button operation).
  • arrow keys and space bar in a keyboard (via free Windows and Linux client software)
  • mouse
  • touch screen

This is an educational software for children who want to use computers but cannot use a mouse. The software has been made for children 18 months to 4 years of age. (or higher for children struggling with language delays due to autism or other causes).

ZAC Browser (Zone for Autistic Children) is an Internet browser with icon based navigation system developed specifically for children living with ASD, Asperger syndrome, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, PDD not otherwise specified and PDD-NOS.

It allows children to access games, activities (based on diverse interests), videos (that allow a stimulating experience and encourages children to talk).

ZAC browser is available in English, Spanish and French.
